PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS ON MAIN STREET

The Department of Community Development of the City of Niagara Falls receives Community Development Block Grand fund applications from area business & professional associations and other organizations to allocate funding for public improvements.

Public improvements planned for Main Street include the construction of a new inter-model transportation center at the north end of Main Street across from the Whirlpool Bridge. The plans for new train station incorporate the old Customs House into its design. Entrance to the train will be from Bath Street which runs between Main and Whirlpool Street, just north of Ontario Avenue. The city has received a total of $5.5 million of federal transporation funds for preliminary design, an environmental impact study, property acquisition, and for the preparation of construction documents.

The New York State Department of Transportation will reconstruct Lewiston Road, Route 104, from the northern city line to Ontario Avenue, including the replacemnt of the railroad overpass, just north of Ontario Avenue. The project is scheduled to start in the spring of 2005.
